WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations in the country. Since the program’s creation in 1998, more than 6,450 schools across the country have launched a WATCH D.O.G.S. program. Each school year hundreds of thousands of fathers and father figures make a positive impact on millions of children by volunteering millions of hours in their local schools.

Who are WATCH D.O.G.S.? (fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, and other father figures) The vision for Starline Elementary School is to have WATCH D.O.G.S. volunteer at lunch and recess. Volunteers will eat lunch with students in order to develop positive relationships and to act as role models. They would also actively engage in games on the playground in order to reinforce kindness, sportsmanship, safe playing, problem resolution, and more. The time commitment would be once-a-week about 40 minutes on the school campus.

In order to promote Rachel’s Challenge, we would also like to have WATCH D.O.G.S. come in the morning to stand at gates before school and high five students as they enter the playground. The WATCH D.O.G.S. would say, “Good Morning! Make it a good day, the choice is yours!” as they smile and give students a high five! The gates would be a “High Five Zone”. This would be in place 1-2 days a week.
